IPL: Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 81 runs

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 81 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata last night to win their first match of IPL 2023. Chasing a target of 205 runs, RCB were bundled out for a mere 123 runs in 17.4 overs with Varun Chakaravarthy taking four wickets while Suyash Sharma, for KKR, picked three wickets. Sunil Narine also scalped two dismissals that also included dismissal of Virat Kohli. Shardul Thakur picked one wicket in form of Michael Bracewell. Earlier, RCB won the toss and elected to field.

After being asked to bat, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) posted 204 for 7 in the stipulated 20 overs. Shardul Thakur with 68 was the top scorer for KKR while Rahmanullah Gurbaz also smashed 57.

Shardul Thakur was declared Player of the Match. For RCB, David Willey and Karn Sharma scalped two wickets each while Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel and Michael Bracewell took one wicket each.
