Under Operation Brahma, 50 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) material, carried by INS Satpura and INS Savitri, were handed over to Myanmar authorities in Yangon yesterday. The relief materials were presented by India’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Abhay Thakur. In a social media post, the Embassy of India in Yangon stated that with six Indian Air Force aircraft and five Indian Navy ships, India’s large-scale first-responder assistance has been delivered to Yangon, Naypyitaw, and Mandalay.
Meanwhile, the death toll in last week’s devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has crossed two thousand. Myanmar’s military leadership has said that over 2,056 people have lost their lives in the powerful earthquake so far, while more than 3,900 people have been injured, with 270 still missing. Strong Tremors were also felt in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and southwest China.
